Every book deserves another reader
Madaf is an app for swapping books with neighbours. Catalog the books you own, put only the ones you are ready to swap in your window, and meet up to swap in person. Your full library stays private.
Free, with no ads. The first city is the one with the most signups.
How it works
Catalog
Scan a barcode or snap the cover. Works for Israeli books without an ISBN too.
Fill your window
Pick the books you are ready to swap. Only those are visible to others; everything else stays with you.
Swap, lend or give
When someone nearby has a book on your wishlist and wants one of yours, it is a match. You can also request a book directly, and the owner picks a book from your window in return. If nothing there suits them, they can lend it or simply give it away.
A chat opens only after both sides agree. A lent book comes back when the reader is done.
What others see
Only you
Your full library, your wishlist and private notes. Your exact location never leaves your phone.
Readers nearby
Books in your window: the title, its condition, your nickname, your town and a distance range.
After both sides agree
An in-app chat, with no phone number and no address.
No tracking ads and no selling data. These limits are enforced on the server, not just hidden in the interface.
Join the waitlist
Tell us which books you would swap and which ones you are looking for. That is how we pick the first city and check how many swaps are already waiting there.
Questions
How much does it cost?
Swapping is free, always. Later there may be a subscription for extras, such as scanning a whole shelf in one photo, but never for the swaps themselves.
Can I lend or give books too?
Yes. Any book in your window can be marked "lending is fine" or "free to a good home". For a loan you agree on a return date and the app reminds you both.
Why ask for books already?
To see where matches already exist. The lists are used only to choose the first city and to estimate how many swaps would happen.
What about books without a barcode?
Snap the cover and the app recognises the book. Israeli barcodes the catalog does not know yet are saved to a community catalog, so the next person who scans them gets an instant match.
When do you launch?
We plan a beta in the first city in spring 2027. People on the waitlist get invited first.
Is it in English too?
Yes. The app will be in Hebrew and English from day one.
